A brilliant little iPhone/Android App created by Intridia for Crisis Commons as part of Crisis Camp DC, this free app can be used On-The-Ground in Haiti to translate words and phrases from English to Creole and back again.

I have installed this App on my phone and it is a perfect example of what the development community can come together to create in a very short window to help wherever they can.

We have heard of iPhones helping people get rescued but this is just incredible. He apparently used Pocket First Aid & CPR on his iPhone to diagnose and treat his own wounds while trapped in the rubble. MSNBC has a good summary of the story as well as interview clips.

Social Networking Tool Working Saving Lives In Haiti

Project Ushadidi has built a mapping tool that allows people to keep informed on situations in Haiti in real-time. According to the BBC News:

“I don’t know how, but most of the network infrastructure survived,” said Reynold Guerrier, a network engineer at the Haitian Association for the Development of Information and Communication Technology (AHTIC).

Crisis Map of Haiti represents the most comprehensive and up-to-date crisis map available to the humanitarian community. The information here is mapped in near real time and gathered from reports coming from inside Haiti via many sources including Twitter
